Michigan State football bringing Illinois DT in for visit

5 days ago 2

You have to imagine that the transfer portal is taking up every hour of the day at this point for college football programs, as staffers pore over tape of the thousands of players currently in the portal to try to make a difference for their teams next year. Michigan State has been as active as anybody this offseason, as Pat Fitzgerald will look to make his mark on this team, and quickly. The Spartans will be looking at a player who played nearby at another Big Ten school this week, as former Illinois defensive tackle Eli Coenen will be on campus visiting the Spartans.

Coenen started his career at Division II Bemidji State, where he was productive, racking up 20 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, and two sacks for the Beavers. Last year, Coenen transferred to Illinois, where he played in 12 games and finished with 12 tackles and 1.5 sacks as a rotation lineman.

Coenen has impressive size at 6-foot-7, 290-pounds and will be an intriguing prospect for MSU to add to their line rotation.
