Michigan State's pre-portal roster projection: Linebacker

1 week ago 2

Michigan State football is gearing up for a roster overhaul, with new head coach Pat Fitzgerald needing to put together his first roster in East Lansing through the transfer portal. With the transfer portal opening on Jan. 2, and only lasting for two weeks, it will be imperative to make a strong and immediate impact.

The first step to shoring up the roster is evaluating the members of MSU's roster that will be retained, while identifying the needs to plug holes in the starting lineup.

Taking a look at the position groups on the Spartans roster, it will distinguish who the team may be pursuing when the portal opens at the turn of the new year.

Now, looking at the Spartans linebacker room, there is finally a room to feel good about going into the 2026 season. This may be the only position group that does not need a starter out of the portal.

Depth Chart Projection:

  • MLB: Jordan Hall (SR)

  • WLB: Brady Pretzlaff (RS Soph)

  • SLB: Aisea Moa (RS SR)

  • Backups: DeeJae White (RS FR), DiMari Malone (RS FR), Leonard Ah-You (RS FR), Adam Shaw (FR)

Outlook: Right now, between the three starters, you could go into 2026 feeling confident. Now, will MSU look to make an upgrade and add another starting caliber player in the mix? That very well could happen, and probably will, but the linebacker room looks to be in a good spot at this time.

The depth of the group looks good, and there are some senior leading captains here. Be prepared for any add at the linebacker spot for the Spartans being luxury adds.
