If you thought Kyle Whittingham was done hiring top-of-the-line staff, think again. Because Michigan football's coaching squad continues to grow.
On Saturday, what was thought to be a complete defensive coaching roster was named, with defensive coordinator Jay Hill (named Friday), defensive line coach Lou Esposito, edge rusher coach Lewis Powell, linebackers coach Alex Whittingham, and what was thought to be defensive backs coach Jernaro Gilford (though he comes over after being the cornerbacks coach at BYU). But the safeties do appear to have a dedicated leader coming.

Per CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz, the Wolverines are hiring Boise State co-defensive coordinator Tyler Stockton to oversee the safeties.
Stockton is a former Notre Dame defensive lineman who got his start in coaching as a graduate assistant at UConn. He was a defensive line coach and defensive coordinator at Western Illinois, and the defensive coordinator and inside linebackers coach at Ball State before going to Boise State in 2024 as the co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach for the Broncos.
With the addition of Stockton, it's unclear which coaches will be part of the 10-man recruiting staff and which will be considered more of an analyst or assistant variety. Here is the entire coaching staff as we know it:
