In a January transfer window focused on new faces, Roma isn’t losing sight of its foundations.

On Sporting Director Frederic Massara’s desk is one file that takes absolute priority: the renewal of Gianluca Mancini and Bryan Cristante.

As reported by Corriere dello Sport, although their contracts expire in 2027, the club has decided to move ahead to secure those considered the cornerstones of the dressing room.

At a time when the futures of other big names like Dybala, Pellegrini, and El Shaarawy—all of whom expire in June—remain shrouded in uncertainty, the club’s decision is clear: they’ll start over with Gasperini’s “praetorians.”

The decision to focus heavily on Mancini and Cristante stems not only from their leadership at Trigoria, but also from their international status.

Both are key figures in Rino Gattuso’s new Italy squad and represent the club’s historic continuity. Mancini is quickly approaching 300 appearances for the Giallorossi, while Cristante has already broken the 338-game mark, effectively becoming the team’s captain.

Talks between Massara and the two players’ entourages have already begun, and there’s a climate of optimism.

The Friedkin ownership’s goal is to reach an agreement that will keep the two players at Roma until the end of their careers.

On the negotiating table is a request for a slight salary increase: Cristante currently earns €2.8 million, while Mancini is set at €3 million.

A deal doesn’t seem far off; only the details regarding bonuses and the exact duration of the extension remain to be ironed out.
