Mahle to SFG: 1 year, $10M

Tyler Mahle and the San Francisco Giants have agreed to terms on a one year deal, per multiple reports. Per Jon Heyman, Mahle is getting “$10M guaranteed,” which I would assume means that there are some innings or appearance incentives.

Mahle spent the 2024-25 seasons with the Texas Rangers, who signed him after 2023 while he was recuperating from Tommy John surgery, anticipating he would return in the second half of 2024. He only ended up making 19 starts for the Rangers, three in 2024 and 16 in 2025. He had a solid 2.18 ERA in 86 innings in 2025, but with a 3.37 FIP and 4.27 xERA, but had a couple of stints on the injured list. He also had just a 19.1% K rate, well below his career 24.1% K rate.

The concerns about his durability and stuff meant that Mahle’s market wasn’t going to be as strong as one would expect for a pitcher coming off a 2.18 ERA, and I mentioned early in the offseason that I wasn’t sure that there was a guarantee out there for Mahle for more than $10 million. It appears that was, in fact, the case.
