The LSU Tigers have been big game hunting in the quarterback transfer portal, but just lost out one of their top options.
It had become the expectation by late Sunday night, but Cincinnati Bearcats transfer quarterback Brendan Sorsby has committed to the Texas Tech Red Raiders per ESPN's Pete Thamel.

Over the course of the weekend, Sorsby had made visits to both schools. Tigers fans had started to get confident that they would land the top target given that the Red Raiders had started to explore other options.
LSU lost out in the end. This is a battle that stung to lose. He had completed 62.9% of his passes over the last two years for 5,613 yards with 45 touchdowns to 12 interceptions. He had also run the ball 205 times for 1,027 yards and 18 more scores.
This is very clearly a talented college quarterback and would be a great fit inside Kiffin's system. Now, though, they must turn their eyes to the next options.
Trinidad Chambliss was another top quarterback that made sense, but the Ole Miss Rebels winning their way further into the playoff and an unclear eligibility issue are making it hard for the Tigers to wait around to see if he would enter the transfer portal.

LSU does have one quarterback meeting set and it is with another big name. Thamel has also reported that Arizona State Sun Devils quarterback Sam Leavitt will visit on Monday.
Most who don't believe that Sorsby is the best quarterback in the portal believe it is because Leavitt is actually the top option.
Over the last two years with the Sun Devils, Leavitt has completed 61.3% of his passes for 4,513 yards with 34 touchdowns to nine interceptions. He's run the ball `183 times for 743 yards and 10 more scores.
It's not the same level of production as Sorsby, but it's comparable and Leavitt is believed to have a higher ceiling and expectations in the NFL draft next year.

Arizona State was not the same as it was last season without the ground support from Cam Skattebo. Leavitt's numbers dropped, but he'd certainly have more help in a Kiffin offense with the weapons that the Tigers will be able to provide.
LSU must figure something out, though, as they don't have a single scholarship quarterback on their rest for next season. All passers from last year have either run out of eligibility or hopped in the transfer portal.
