With the opening of the 2026 NCAA Transfer Portal window on Monday, fans everywhere looked to LSU football and its new Head Coach, Lane Kiffin, to see what they would do. Kiffin is regarded as the country’s “portal guru,” having signed top-ranked classes every season since the transfer portal began.
However, so far, the answer has been disappointing. LSU has signed only two players: Hawaii wide receiver Jackson Harris and Utah running back Raycine Guillory.

Some of this is outside Kiffin’s control. The Tigers are in a peculiar spot, as Kiffin’s former team, Ole Miss, is still in the college football playoff. This means the Rebels who might be planning to transfer after the season ends likely won’t announce their decisions until their postseason run is over, keeping LSU’s staff from recruiting them.
However, the player Tiger fans were most hopeful would land in Baton Rouge has announced his 2026 plans: Pending his eligibility waiver request, Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss will remain in Oxford next season, per Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger.

This is particularly disappointing news for LSU fans, as Chambliss has starred for the Rebels this season, winning the SEC Newcomer of the Year award and earning Second-Team All-SEC honors. He led the conference in passing yards, ranked sixth in touchdown passes, and had the second-fewest interceptions among quarterbacks who took at least 150 snaps this season, per PFF.

LSU fans hoped Chambliss would rejoin his former head coach and offensive coordinator in Baton Rouge after he wrapped up his playoff run, but those dreams have been dashed. Even if he is granted an extra year of eligibility, Chambliss will not play that season in Baton Rouge.
