Longhorns RB Christian Clark shines in Cheez-It Citrus Bowl win

1 week ago 2

When the Texas Longhorns took the field on Wednesday in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl their roster looked very different than just a few weeks ago. Due to players entering the portal and players declaring for the NFL Draft their depth was tested. On player who saw an increased role in the 41-27 win over Michigan was running back Christian Clark who made the most of his playing time.

On 20 carries, Clark recorded a season-high 105 rushing yards. He also found the end zone once and provided the Longhorns with a spark while serving as the No. 1 running back. While Arch Manning led the team with 155 rushing yards, Clark was hard to stop every time he touched the ball.

As Clark played a vital role in the offense, Texas was unstoppable on the ground. Four players combined for 235 rushing yards, averaging 7.1 yards per carry. That was one of their best performances of the season, giving the Longhorns a perfect sendoff into the offseason.

With the 2025 season now in the books, the Arizona native will shift his focus to putting himself in a position to have a significant role in 2026. He finished his freshman campaign with 236 rushing yards on 236 attempts. While most of those yards came against Michigan on Wednesday, it was a sneak peek at what Clark can do when he has a bigger role in the offense.

When Clark arrives on campus in the fall, he will be part of a running back room that will have a new look. The Longhorns will welcome Derrek Cooper to campus, who is one of the best players in the 2026 class. If he becomes the top option, Clark would not be a bad backup option.

Although a lot can change over the next few months, Clark made a statement in his biggest game of the year. That should put the coaching staff on notice as they look to build a roster capable of winning a national title.
