Winfield broke away in the fourth quarter and defeated Charleston Catholic 56-44 for the Pepsi Division championship at the Little General Battle for the Armory Tuesday afternoon.
The Generals (4-0) led most of the game, but the Irish stayed close and led briefly early in the third quarter. But Winfield took control in the final period, thanks largely to 6-foot-4, 212-pound forward/center Brody Ilderton. The junior scored nine of his 12 points in the fourth, five during a 12-0 run that essentially decided the game and put the Generals ahead 49-34.

Ilderton also has 12 rebounds.
Up to that point, the Irish (2-2) wouldn’t let Winfield get away.
The Generals went ahead 19-12 before Charleston Catholic use a 9-2 spurt to tie the game at 21-21. A 3-pointer by Mydan Oglesby put the Generals back on top, then Zaden Ranson scored for the Irish to make the score 24-23 Winfield at halftime.
Will Gruse’s 3-pointer put the Irish ahead for the first and only time 35 seconds into the third quarter. Winfield responded and scored the next nine points for a 33-26 advantage.
Charleston Catholic again got back in it and a Gruse 3 with 17 seconds to play in the third made it 37-34.
