The Commanders had some unsettling news, Wednesday, as starting running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt (JCM) was not able to practice.
As the Commanders prepare for Sundays 4:25 contest in Philadelphia against the Eagles, it was already expected that starting left tackle Laremy Tunsil (oblique) and quarterback Marcus Mariota were not going to be able to practice, Wednesday. "Bill" on the other hand is a surprise, and was unable to practice due to an illness. It means that three players you would like to start may not be able to play against the Eagles.

Mariota is still battling an injury to his passing hand (right) and a quad. He was doing individual work, but head coach Dan Quinn expressed Mariota would still be doubtful, as of today (Wednesday). The Commanders best chance to win Sunday, is if Mariota is in the lineup. Then again, is it more important for the Commanders to play younger quarterbacks to see what they have in Sam Hartman?
Hartman didn't perform well at all in the preseason games, but Washington kept Hartman all season anyway. Then just last week, instead of relying upon Hartman as the backup to Josh Johnson, the Commanders went out and signed 2024 No.3 Washington quarterback Jeff Driskel. Leaving many to wonder, "If you don't believe in Hartman at all, why would you keep him all season, when that practice squad spot could have gone to another player, in whom you believe in much more?
Perhaps the Commanders will play Josh Johnson again, hoping to get the win. Yes, never tank, or not compete. Yet, seeing how bad Hartman was in the preseason, and seeing they didn't want him on the field last week, is it time to determine to turn elsewhere when looking for a young quarterback you want to develop over the next few years?
