“I thought we started off slow, but we picked it up in the second quarter,” OCHS head coach Michael Robertson said afterward. “We finally started doing a couple of things that we’ve talked about on offense — utilizing the short corner, diving and getting the ball inside. I thought we settled for way too many 3-pointers early, which is while the game was as close as it was early.
“We weren’t taking care of the ball and had way too many turnovers in the first half. In the second half, we did a better job of taking care of the ball.”
Catholic jumped out to an early advantage, scoring 18 of 22 points in the opening frame.
The Lady Aces, picking up the defensive pressure, reeled off a 15-0 run midway through the second quarter on the way to establishing a 45-16 halftime advantage — with Layla Martin knocking down a 3 at the buzzer.

Catholic began the third period on an 8-0 run to seize a 53-16 advantage and force a KHSAA-mandated running clock less than two minutes into the second half.
The Lady Aces carried a 60-28 lead into the final frame after a 3-pointer from Betsy Moore inside the final 10 seconds of the third quarter.
“When we share the ball well, we’re pretty good,” Robertson said. “But we got to get better. Once we started executing on offense, good things happened.”
Martin finished with 13 points for Catholic, and Katie Hagan posted 12 points as the Lady Aces forced 28 turnovers.
“We got a lot of steals early,” Robertson said. “We didn’t always convert them, but we did get them, so we got to continue with that. It’s good to get a win, now let’s try to get a second one tomorrow.”
