ESPN NFL insider Peter Schrager says Kliff Kingsbury ended his time with the Washington Commanders on good terms.
Schrager, appearing on the Pat McAfee show Tuesday, was very confident that the Dan Quinn/Kliff Kingsbury parting of the ways was, in fact, merely an agreement to go their separate ways.

"I think for Kliff and Washington, at the end of the day, they wanted to make a change, and he was more than fine to no longer be the offensive play caller in that building," Schrager said. "And he loved Jayden (Daniels) and loved Dan Quinn. I think it was just time, and they are moving on to David Blough, who is 30 years old, and they get their fresh new start. I'm excited to see where that goes," added Schrager.
There had been much talk of a rift between Dan Quinn and Kingsbury, or of GM Adam Peters meddling in Kingsbury's decision-making on who should play in the offense. But Schrager insists, "It actually ended on good terms with him and Quinn. Kliff goes on now, and I think they (Commanders) were just looking to get into a new scheme and mirror what they (Adam Peters) did in San Francisco."
Schrager then voiced his agreement with the parting of the ways. "I think that is fair. What Kliff does is different; it is not what they want to run. So they are going to move on. Again, both sides are cool with each other, happy, and Kliff is going to get another opportunity."
McAfee wasn't buying it necessarily, sort of scoffing in his body language and gesturing, but Schrager held to his position, replying, "Hey, you know DQ, he was like broken-hearted, didn't want to say goodbye, Dan Quinn is like the greatest guy in the world!"

As for Kingsbury's job this season in the NFL? Schrager told McAfee that Kingsbury interviewed in person in Baltimore with the Ravens, and that Kingsbury actually interviewed for both jobs, head coach and offensive coordinator. He also added that he thought former Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel was doing the same thing, interviewing for both positions for the Ravens.
So, perhaps the rift/disconnect was exaggerated by the early reports heading into the final regular-season game. Perhaps it was merely a philosophical difference, and it was nothing personal?
