Johannes Høsflot Klæbo hung on to clinch a record fifth cross country Tour de Ski title on Sunday while the final stage win went to his Norwegian team-mate Mattis Stenshagen.

Klæbo took a lead of 83 seconds into the 10 kilometres mass start with the gruelling Alpe Cermis climb, and he dropped behind early at the steep uphill.

He lost almost a minute but crossed the line in 12th place and salvaged an advantage of 30.1 seconds over Stenshagen in the overall standings.

The 2024 winner Harald Østberg Amundsen was third, 1 minute 8.2 seconds back, for a second Norwegian sweep in the prestigious event.

Superstar Klæbo broke a tie on four titles with former Swiss great Dario Cologna, having previously triumphed in 2019, 2022, 2023 and 2025.

The women's final stage on the same course was scheduled for later Sunday. Twice champion Jessica Diggins of the United States leads 1:19 minutes ahead of Finnish skier Jasmi Joensuu.

This season's Tour de Ski was cut from eight to six stages to ease the workload for the athletes ahead of the Milan/Cortina d'Ampezzo Winter Olympics which open on February 6.
