Jordan Shipley has suffered "severe" burns in an accident on his Texas ranch, his family announced late Tuesday night. The Texas legend is hospitalized and remains in "critical but stable" condition.
According to his family, a machine Shipley was operating caught fire and caused significant burns. Shipley was able to locate an employee of his ranch who eventually drove him to the hospital, and Shipley was then flown to Austin for further medical attention.

Shipley, 40, is one of the greatest players to ever don the burnt orange. He's Texas' all-time leader in receptions (248) and is second in both receiving yards (3,191) and touchdowns (33). His 2009 season was one for the ages, as Shipley exploded for 116 catches, 1,485 yards and 13 touchdowns as Colt McCoy's favorite target.
The Cincinnati Bengals selected Shipley in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft, and he had an impressive rookie season with 52 catches, 600 yards and three touchdowns. A torn ACL and MCL derailed Shipley's sophomore season, however, and he was never the same player. He had brief stints with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Jacksonville Jaguars in 2012 and retired in 2014.
Since retirement, Shipley has taken to outdoor television and ranch real estate. Here's hoping Shipley can get healthy and back to what he loves soon.
