Joey McGuire shows support for Dan Lanning, Ducks in remaining CFP run

It's hard not to be impressed with the Oregon Ducks' performance in the Orange Bowl, as they took down the No. 4 Texas Tech Red Raiders 23-0 on their way to advancing to the College Football Playoff semifinals.

The stats tell the whole story, as the Ducks had 309 total yards versus just 215 for Texas Tech, as well as Oregon dominating the time of possession (nearly 40 minutes with the ball) and turning the Red Raiders over four times versus just once by Oregon, with the caveat that it was on fourth down.

Texas Tech came in with a 12-1 record, with their last game being a victory in the Big 12 title game. It was a tremendous season for the Red Raiders, who reached the CFP for the first time in program history. Despite that, it's surely a disappointing loss from their perspective, as they came in expecting to win and were beaten in all aspects of the game.

All Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire could do was compliment head coach Dan Lanning and the Ducks during his postgame press conference, expressing how impressed he was with the team as a whole.

"Hats off to Dan Lanning," he said. "Hats off to the Oregon Ducks. Just an incredible football team and they played at a really high level today and I'll be rooting for them. I told Dan after the game, I hope he wins the whole damn thing and they're a good football team."

He later added that the Ducks' defense was the best that they've faced all year, a schedule that included several ranked opponents in Utah, Houston and BYU twice.

But in the end, Oregon's defensive unit proved to be worlds above those previous Texas Tech opponents, rattling quarterback Behren Morton and forcing four game-changing turnovers while dominating at all three levels of the defense.

Quite the effort led by Lanning, moving the Ducks forward to the CFP semifinals and gaining a supporter in McGuire along the way.
