The New York Jets have had one of the worst seasons in franchise history partly due to the fact that the quarterback room has been lacking to say the least. Running back Breece Hall, one of the bright spots for New York over the past few seasons, has been ruled out for Sunday's season finale against the Buffalo Bills ahead of free-agency due to a knee injury.
Hall, 24, finishes the 2025 season with 243 carries for 1,065 rushing yards (4.4 yards per attempt) and four touchdowns in 16 games played, arguably one of his best seasons in the league. Hall heads into the offseason as an unrestricted free-agent after a season in which Hall was one of the best players on one of the worst offenses in the NFL, which could complicate his own endeavors in free-agency.

Hall and the Jets did not come to terms on an contract extension prior to the beginning of the 2025 season which was a risky move depending on how the running back performed over the course of the season. According to ESPN's Rich Cimini, New York wants to bring Hall back, but it seems that will hinge on what kind of market Hall is able to command in free-agency.
"From all indications, though, the Jets remain very interested in retaining Hall before he hits the open market as a free agent in March," Cimini wrote. New York is projected to have the 12th-most cap space ($13.9 million) in the league heading into 2026 and they will have some important decisions, including if they will take a quarterback in the 2026 NFL Draft.
"Hall will likely be looking to get into the same salary stratosphere as James Cook and Kyren Williams, fellow running backs from the 2022 draft, with a new contract," former sports agent Joel Corry wrote for CBS Sports. "Williams signed a three-year, $33 million extension with the Rams during the preseason. Cook's four-year, $46 million extension, worth up to $48 million with salary escalators, from the Buffalo Bills came several days after Williams' deal."
Whether Hall and the Jets can agree to a contract where he would get paid somewhere between $11 million per year and $12 million per year is left to be seen, especially if New York would rather move forward with Braelon Allen as the starting running back. Either way, Hall ended his season with a 14-carry, 111-yard performance against the New England Patriots and the market will show if he is able to parlay that outing into a huge payday.
