For the second consecutive season, the New York Giants have endured one of the worst campaigns in franchise history. Yet amid the disappointment, one clear bright spot has emerged for Big Blue: The potential discovery of a franchise quarterback in 2025 first-round pick Jaxson Dart.
Dart has largely impressed throughout the season, quickly winning over fans with his play as an Ole Miss product.

Not everyone, however, is fully convinced about the rookie. Former Giants quarterback Danny Kanell recently expressed doubts about Dart as the long-term solution under center.
"I don't know if Jaxson Dart is the long-term answer for the Giants," Kanell said. "When I think of a first-round draft pick, I think it's somebody that you should picture for 10 to 12 years as going to be your guy. I still haven’t seen the development as a passer. He's still running the football, and they’re designing runs for him, but I want to see him take that next step as a passer, and I just haven't seen it yet."
Dart's father, Brandon, took notice of Kanell's comments and promptly fired back at the former Giants quarterback with a Stranger Things reference.
In recent weeks, when the Giants were positioned to select first overall in the 2026 draft, considerable speculation arose that the team might be better served trading Dart and using that top pick on Fernando Mendoza.

While Dart's overall body of work remains impressive, he has drawn criticism for a reckless playing style this season. His performance appears to have regressed since Brian Daboll's dismissal, with his statistics suffering noticeably -- he has gone two straight games without a passing touchdown.
That said, the prevailing view is that the Giants have found their cornerstone quarterback, which makes the ongoing head-coaching search especially critical, as the new coach will play a pivotal role in developing the young signal-caller.
