It sounds like two thoughts were going through Jared Verse's mind when he returned a blocked kick for a touchdown in Week 17: First, score. Second, concern for a penalty.
The Los Angeles Rams edge rusher had thrown up the "peace" sign 50 yards away from the endzone, which could have earned a flag from the officials. Not only was he worried about a potential penalty, but he was scared of the response from head coach Sean McVay if he did.

“I was scared as [expletive]," Verse said this week about the potential penalty. "I was like, ‘Sean’s going to kill me.' I was like, ‘It’s bad.’ I got to the endzone and was like, ‘They’re not going to review it? Alright, bet.’”
No flag emerged, though, and the Rams drew within seven points thanks to Verse's sensational play.
The touchdown helped make the game close, but didn't lead to a Rams' victory. Instead, L.A. fell by a field goal, 27-24, and will now be playing for either the No. 5 or No. 6 seed in the NFC postseason, depending on the results of their Week 18 game against the Arizona Cardinals.
