Jake Paul’s December loss to former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua didn’t just leave him with a broken jaw. It also left him with an indefinite suspension.

According to MMAFighting.com, the Florida Athletic Commission confirmed on Sunday, January 4 ​​that Paul, 28, won’t be allowed to enter the ring again until he’s been cleared by a medical physician.

Paul and Joshua, 36, went head to head on December 19, and in the days leading up to the fight, Paul was confident he would walk away the winner.

“This isn’t an AI simulation. This is Judgment Day,” Paul said in an interview with Netflix, per The Blast. “A professional heavyweight fight against an elite world champion in his prime. When I beat Anthony Joshua, every doubt disappears, and no one can deny me the opportunity to fight for a world title.”

However, things didn’t go as planned. After a brutal blow from Joshua, Paul suffered a double broken jaw that required surgery to fix.

“He was imposing his will on me and being massive, and the big shots landing, it goes downhill from there,” Paul later told his brother Logan Paul during an episode of his Impaulsive podcast. “I wish I had more than three weeks to prepare, put on more muscle. Sit there and hit him. I should have gone to altitude to train; that was my biggest mistake.”

However, Paul wasn’t the only boxer to get handed suspensions from the Florida Athletic Commission. Tyron Woodley, Camilla Panatta, and Justin Cardona all received medical suspensions as well.
