The Washington Commanders completed a miserable 2025 season on Sunday with a 24-17 win over NFC East champions, the Philadelphia Eagles. After a 3-2 record to start the season, Washington lost eight straight games, including 10 of its final 12, to finish 5-12.
Sunday's win means the Commanders will pick seventh in the 2026 NFL Draft. While that may disappoint fans, Washington players were relieved to end a difficult season on a positive note. The win did prevent the Eagles from landing the No. 2 overall seed in the NFC Playoffs, meaning they'll host the San Francisco 49ers on NFC wild-card weekend, rather than the reeling Green Bay Packers.

Here's a recap of how things went down at Lincoln Financial Field.
Final score: Commanders 24, Eagles 17
Commanders defeat Eagles Week 18
Numbers to know
1,000: Commanders WR Terry McLaurin didn't get 1,000 yards receiving for the sixth straight year due to injuries, but he did go over the 1,000-yard mark for his career against the Eagles, joining some exclusive company.
2,000: Speaking of making history, Commanders linebacker Bobby Wagner became the third player in NFL history to have 2,000 career tackles, joining London Fletcher and Ray Lewis.
500,000: With his sack of Tanner McKee, Commanders linebacker Von Miller recorded his ninth sack of the season and collected a bonus of $500K. That means two big bonuses for Miller, who collected another $500K after recording his seventh sack a few weeks ago.
138.5: Miller's ninth sack of the season also ties him with DeMarcus Ware with 138.5 career sacks, good for 13th all-time.
71: Pro Bowl punter Tress Way continues to perform at a high level, crushing a 71-yard punt in this game, his longest of the season. He averaged 53 yards per punt on the day.
It was over when...
When Von Miller sacked McKee with 41 seconds remaining, the Eagles had no timeouts remaining, facing a fourth-and-17 with a rolling clock and 79 yards to go. There were only 16 seconds left when McKee received the snap, and his final pass fell incomplete.
3 stars of the game
QB Josh Johnson: 14/22, 131 passing yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, 1 fumble, 45 rushing yards, 1 TD
RB Chris Rodriguez Jr: 16 carries, 65 yards, 1 TD, 1 catch, 18 yards receiving
S Jeremy Reaves: 6 tackles, 1 INT, 28 return yards
Play of the game
There weren't a lot of highlight-reel plays from Sunday's game, but Josh Johnson's go-ahead touchdown run in the fourth quarter qualifies for this one. Watch how Johnson fooled Eagles cornerback Kelee Ringo on the play. It was also his first rushing touchdown since 2018, when he was with the Redskins. Those are the only two rushing touchdowns of his 18-year NFL career.
What's next?
Unfortunately for the Commanders, it's not the playoffs. What a difference a year makes. GM Adam Peters and head coach Dan Quinn will meet with the media to preview what's expected to be a busy offseason.
