One insider has claimed a successful defensive coordinator has been "connected" to the Pittsburgh Steelers, should head coach Mike Tomlin throw in the towel at the end of the 2025 season.
On Friday, Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer claimed that if Tomlin moves on from Pittsburgh, a candidate that’s been connected to the Steelers as his replacement is none other than Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Chris Shula.

“The Steelers, Ravens and Bills have generated conversation in recent weeks,” Breer wrote. “Is there any reality to it? I don’t think these would be firings. But there is some thought that Mike Tomlin could look at a reset, with the Pittsburgh roster potentially going through one soon too, and take a year or two in TV before returning to the sideline. And interestingly enough, Shula’s name has been connected to the Steelers, in case there is an opening.”
Previously, ESPN’s Adam Schefter also echoed a similar sentiment to Breer regarding Tomlin’s future, claiming the Steelers head coach could have discussions about leaving Pittsburgh following a Week 18 loss.
Fans should always take these insights with a grain of salt, but it’s always exciting when a figure as well-respected as Breer hints at something as big as a new head coach in Pittsburgh — what many fans have been clamoring for over the past few years.
