Ian Rapoport reveals Joey Aguilar had surgery to remove benign tumor

Tennessee's 2025 football season ended with a, 30-28, loss to Illinois in the Music City Bowl.

Following the Vols' season-ending loss, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network announced Tennessee senior quarterback Joey Aguilar had successful surgery to remove a benign tumor.

"Joey Aguilar had successful surgery today to remove a benign tumor that has been pushing on his biceps tendon and labrum, causing weakness and pain, sources say," Rapoport said. "Aguilar kept the situation quiet, but handled it today. Full recovery in eight weeks."

The 6-foot-3, 225-pound senior completed 272-of-404 passing attempts for 3,565 yards, 24 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 13 games for the Vols in 2025. He also recorded 101 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns.

Aguilar transferred to Tennessee from UCLA after spring practices. He never played in a game for the Bruins. Aguilar transferred to the Bruins after the 2024 season from Appalachian State.
