How much money would Lane Kiffin get from Ole Miss CFP semifinal win?

5 days ago 2

Ole Miss is one win away from an improbable College Football Playoff national championship appearance. Lane Kiffin hasn't been on the CFP journey since he left to coach LSU back in late November, but he's still rooting for the Rebels -- especially since he's financially incentivized to do so.

Kiffin's Ole Miss contract included significant bonuses for CFP success. The 50-year-old has already earned $500,000 for the Rebels' first two wins, and if they can knock off Miami in the Fiesta Bowl, he'd get another $250,000. A national title would result in Kiffin earning a total of $1 million. LSU is paying these bonuses as part of the seven-year, $91 million contract they gave Kiffin.

At this point it's unclear whether Kiffin will make the trip to Arizona for the game. It would've made logistical sense if he attended the Sugar Bowl in which Ole Miss topped Georgia, as it took place in New Orleans. However, Kiffin decided to attend an LSU women's basketball game instead, taking the court with another polarizing coach in Kim Mulkey.

Kiffin's decision to leave Oxford drew significant criticism as Ole Miss was in the midst of its best season in program history. Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss and offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr. -- who'll be heading to LSU after the CFP -- have kept the Rebels' offense humming in his absence, though, and they could author a remarkable story by winning it all.

While it may sting for Kiffin to not be along for the ride, he could cry his way to the bank if he needs to.
