Here's why Marquette assistant coach DeAndre Haynes wasn't on bench

STORRS, CT - Marquette men's basketball assistant coach DeAndre Haynes has not been on the bench for the Golden Eagles' last two games.

Head coach Shaka Smart was asked about Haynes' absence after MU's 73-57 loss at Connecticut on Jan. 4.

"He missed the games because of a team matter," Smart said. "He'll be back tomorrow."

No details of the team matter were disclosed. Smart was also asked if the matter had anything to do with the departure of junior guard Zaide Lowery.

"Nothing," Smart said.

Haynes has been a part of the MU staff since Smart was hired in March 2021.
