Grading the Vikings offense by position based on the 2025 NFL season

5 days ago 2

In what can only be described as a roller coaster type of season, the Minnesota Vikings' regular season has come to a close. The Vikings ended the year on a five-game winning streak, resulting in a 9-8 record, their second in a row, and third in the last four years.

The defense was the calling card for this team, but their grades come later this week. Today, we hand out grades for the entire offense by position. Let's talk about it.

Quarterback: F

There is no other grade you can hand out here besides F. Three different starting quarterbacks, your franchise quarterback always hurt, and starting someone who doesn't belong on an XFL roster results in horrible play out of the position. When Carson Wentz was your best quarterback in 2025, you had major issues.

This is not to say there weren't flashes of great play from J.J. McCarthy. McCarthy, after coming back from his concussion, looked more confident with his decision-making and ball placement. The opening night comeback was something to behold, too. But his play was far too inconsistent to warrant any other grade for the group.

Running Backs: C+

The duo of Aaron Jones Sr. and Jordan Mason combined to rush for 1,306 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground, which isn't horrible production. Jones did miss four games this season, which would likely elevate this tandem to around 1500 yards. This rushing attack finished 23rd in the NFL in rushing offense and 27th in rushing attempts as a team. However, their 4.5 yards per carry were 11th in the league.

Wide Receivers: C-

This wide receiver unit is a weird one to judge because of how horrible the quarterback play was this year. However, they are not without blame themselves. Jordan Addison had an alarming number of drops this year, and while it may be out of his character, Justin Jefferson should have made more of an effort to demand the ball. Jalen Nailor was a bright spot in this room, as he was tied with Josh Oliver for most touchdowns on the season with four.

Tight Ends: D+

These grades may feel harsh, but it is coming from a place of understanding how much potential this group had. T.J. Hockenson was a non-factor for most of the year, finishing with 438 receiving yards and three touchdowns. We spoke already about Oliver's touchdown total, too. Struggles to get anything going in the pass game were apparent, as they played a part in a struggling offense.

Offensive Line: B-

This unit was banged up for the majority of the season, but as a whole, this was an above-average unit in 2025. The sack total is brutal, yes, as they finished tied for the second most sacks allowed this season with 60(!), but flexed their muscle in the ground game. The reason those rushing totals weren't higher is that they often played from behind, especially late. Their bright spot was rookie Donovan Jackson, who came on strong to end the year. The Vikings have a nice foundation to build off of in 2026.
