Giants’ Cam Skattebo ‘on schedule’ in recovery from season-ending ankle injury

Giants running back Cam Skattebo is doing well on his way back following the gruesome ankle injury he suffered in Week 8 against the Eagles.

Skattebo told reporters at Big Blue’s Baggie Day on Monday that he has about a week before he gets up and moving around a little bit, but he remains on schedule in his recovery.

“Time will tell, we have plenty of time to get back to it,” he said. “Training camp is obviously the goal, that’s the long goal, hopefully get back by OTAs, but if not there’s no rush to it -- there’s a long road ahead, and that’s not going to stop me.”

The 23-year-old was tremendous for Big Blue before going down with the injury.

And after being forced to the sidelines, he said that it sucked having to sit out and watch his teammates struggle down the stretch of the season.

“You can’t be out there to help,” Skattebo said. “When you can’t be out there to do something to make sure your team is in a better position to win, and you can’t contribute other than having the energy on the sidelines, it’s hard to be in that situation.”

But now all the youngster can do is turn his attention to his sophomore season.

While things didn’t go well for the Giants this year, finishing in the basement of the NFC East with a 4-13 record, Skattebo believes in the direction this organization is headed with fellow rookie Jaxson Dart under center.

“This place is special,” he said. “They’re doing a good job drafting, I’m excited for this upcoming draft and seeing who sticks around -- I’m excited to build something here, no matter who is in this building.

“We have our quarterback so I’m excited for that simply -- we build the pieces around him to be successful and I’m juiced to see what this franchise can be within the next five years.”
