Giants' Cam Skattebo vows to return strong after injury: 'Not going to stop me'

Every once in a while, a player comes along who captures the imagination of the fans. In 2025, that player was rookie running back Cam Skattebo of the New York Giants.

Known for his throwback, smashmouth, vintage style of running the football with abandon for his personal safety, Skattebo won the fans over right away. Then, the train derailed on everyone when the fourth-round pick out of Arizona State dislocated his ankle in a gruesome manner in the team's Week 8 win over the Philadelphia Eagles.

Skattebo had surgery to repair the damage, but has been hopping, wheeling, and ambling his way around the facility all year to stay close to the team he plans on helping win in the future.

"I'm juiced to see what this franchise can be within the next five years," Skattebo said, via the New York Post.

He was asked this week if he's going to be ready for the 2026 season.

"That's not even a question," Skattebo said after describing his rehab schedule, which is taking him back and forth between Arizona and New York. "I'm going to be back. I played seven games in the NFL, and I got hurt. There's a long road ahead, and that's not going to stop me."

Skattebo made such an impact this season while he was active that he displaced Tyrone Tracy Jr. -- one of the NFL's most productive and versatile backs -- as the Giants' starter. He amassed 617 yards from scrimmage with seven total touchdowns in those seven games.

But it was the shot in the arm he brought to the Giants that endeared him to fans. His continued presence around the team has boosted morale in this otherwise dreadful season.

Fellow rookie and best friend Jaxson Dart believes Skattebo is on schedule and will pick up where he left off.

"He’s going to be ready," Dart said. "I feel like if they would've let Skatt play [Sunday], he would've played. He's attacked it. He's got a great plan in place for him to be ready, and he's going to come back stronger than he was before."

Given what we've already seen from Skattebo, that would be something to see.
