Georgia DB JaCorey Thomas ejected from Sugar Bowl

Georgia Bulldogs defensive back JaCorey Thomas was ejected for a targeting penalty on Ole Miss Rebels wide receiver Cayden Lee in the first half of the Sugar Bowl. Thomas won't play during the second half, but would be able to return for the College Football Playoff semifinals.

With Thomas out, Georgia is expected to play Zion Branch more at safety. The Bulldogs are already thin in the secondary with defensive backs Joenel Aguero (wrist) and Kyron Jones (foot) out.

Entering the Sugar Bowl, Thomas had 42 tackles and a sack in 13 games and seven starts. The senior has started for Georgia with Kyron Jones out due to a foot injury.

Georgia's secondary will see plenty of action in the second half with the Rebels trailing 21-12 at halftime. Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss attempted 28 passes in the first half.

Georgia fans have a right to be upset with the controversial targeting call. In the first half, Ole Miss delivered a massive hit to Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton that did not even get reviewed.
