1 week ago 2

Nebraska women's basketball (12-2, 1-2) faced its second straight top 25 opponent this week, traveling to rival No. 14 Iowa for a New Year's Day showdown. In another frustrating outing, the Huskers fell short once again, taking the 86-76 loss.

Foul trouble plagued Nebraska on the day, allowing for Iowa to strike big at the free throw line. The Huskers suffered 22 fouls in the loss, and the Hawkeyes landed 23-of-28 from the free throw line, including 11-of-13 in the fourth. This tilted the scales in Iowa's favor on a balanced showing from both sides.

Nebraska trailed by three heading into the fourth, but its eight four-quarter fouls led to the Hawkeyes pulling away with the win. The Huskers finished 29-of-58 from the floor while Iowa hit 28-of-57. Iowa landed one more shot from beyond the arc than Nebraska, going 7-of-20. The Huskers only finished 12-of-15 from the foul line.

Britt Prince posted her first 20-point game in nearly a month, tallying 27 and shooting 10-of-18 from the floor. She struck big in the second quarter, scoring 11 points and hitting 5-of-7. Jessica Petrie scored 17 points for the Huskers, earning 13 in the first half. She led Nebraska from three-point range, totaling 3-of-8. Eliza Maupin grabbed her first double-double of the season in the loss, scoring 12 points and leading the team in rebounds with 11.

The Huskers return home for their next batch of games, starting with a Sunday afternoon bout against Purdue. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. CT on B1G+.
