Penn State added an intriguing secondary piece on Friday when former Syracuse defensive back Ibn McDaniels made the call for the Nittany Lions.
McDaniels was a three-star prospect from New Jersey in the 2024 recruiting class that camped at Penn State a few times, but never received an official offer. Instead, he went to Syracuse for the last two seasons, where he’s been a special teams contributor and back end of the rotation corner.

This one for Penn State is all about the upside of McDaniels, who is a good athlete with some unique size for a DB. He’s 6-foot-3, 200 pounds and has a 6-foot-11 wingspan. So yeah, this is a big, athletic kid that if he gets the right coaching and development, could be a really good player at corner or one of the safety spots. For now though, he’ll likely be a special teamer who is a depth piece as the Nittany Lions build out some depth in the back end of the defense.
