Former Sooners wide receiver commits to SEC school

Former Oklahoma Sooners wide receiver Jayden Gibson hadn't been with the program since mid-October, and he entered the transfer portal ahead of its official opening on January 2nd. On Sunday night, he found his new school.

Gibson will be staying in the SEC, as he is now committed to play for the South Carolina Gamecocks. He'll return to Norman to face his former program on Halloween night during the 2026 season. The former four-star prospect arrived at OU with so much promise, but his time as a Sooner was derailed by injuries.

Gibson was a member of the 2022 recruiting class, and he participated in nine games as a true freshman. He had a big year in 13 games in 2023, catching 14 passes for 375 yards and five touchdowns, and he looked to be in for a breakout season in 2024. However, Gibson was injured in fall camp and he missed the entire season. He returned to OU for the 2025 season, but he suffered an injury setback and never made it on the field. In October, head coach Brent Venables said that Gibson was "no longer with the team".

The Gamecocks are getting a player with plenty of size at 6-foot-5 and plenty of ability, but also one that hasn't played football since 2023. He spent basically half of the 2025 season without a team, and obviously was expected to hit the portal. After announcing his plans to transfer, he's found his new home. He'll try to help South Carolina rebound offensively in 2026.

In addition to Gibson, the Sooners are also losing wide receivers Jakeb Snyder, Josiah Martin and KJ Daniels to the portal. Seniors Deion Burks and Keontez Lewis also won't be returning, as they've both exhausted their collegiate eligibility.
