Former San Diego Padres farmhand Luis Liberato signed a contract with the Chinese Professional Baseball League's Fubon Guardians on Monday.

Liberato, 30, made his Major League debut with the Padres in 2022 but went hitless in seven plate appearances and struck out three times. The outfielder originally signed as an international free agent in 2012 with the Seattle Mariners.

CPBL clubs in Taiwan can have up to four foreign players on their roster. Liberato split the 2025 season in South Korea and Mexico, playing for the Hanwha Eagles and Diablos Rojos del Mexico.

Liberato is tearing up LIDOM

Outside of his seven-game stint with the Padres, Liberato was stuck in the minor leagues of affiliated baseball for 11 seasons, last making an appearance at Triple-A Gwinnett in the Atlanta Braves system in 2024.

According to David Alcantara on X, he will leave the Toros del Este in the Dominican Winter League after seven games to prepare for the upcoming season with the Guardians.

Liberato hit .321/.367/.500 with a home run and six RBIs in 30 plate appearances with the Toros.
