Former Oklahoma Sooners OL commits to Bedlam rival

4 days ago 2

The Oklahoma Sooners have seen all kinds of activity going both ways in the transfer portal over the last few days, and they saw one of their former players find a new portal home on Tuesday night.

Former Oklahoma offensive lineman Jacob Sexton has committed to play for the Oklahoma State Cowboys out of the transfer portal. He spent four years in Norman, arriving as a part of OU's 2022 recruiting class. Sexton was a senior in 2025 after playing in at least seven games each year at Oklahoma from 2022 to 2024. However, he was injured in the 2025 season opener, after being the Week 1 starter at left tackle, and he missed the rest of the season. The Edmond, Oklahoma native now heads to Stillwater with one more year of eligibility remaining, after preserving his redshirt in 2025.

Injuries were the major reason that Sexton never found real consistency at OU, as he was a starter for the Sooners when he was healthy, over the course of multiple seasons. Oklahoma State is entering a new era under new head coach Eric Morris, and the Cowboys will be adding a veteran offensive lineman who is capable of playing multiple positions and has Big 12 Conference experience.

Sexton joins many of his former teammates in leaving OU to play in the Big 12. Among them are defensive back Devon Jordan (Baylor), quarterback Michael Hawkins Jr. (West Virginia), defensive back Maliek Hawkins (West Virginia), offensive lineman Jake Taylor (Iowa State), and defensive back Marcus Wimberly (Utah).

The Sooners will be looking to rebuild their offensive line depth in the portal over the next few days, as Sexton and many other depth pieces have decided to test the portal waters. The portal officially closes Friday, January 16th.
