Former Colorado EDGE commits to top Big Ten program

Another one of the Colorado Buffaloes' 30-plus transfer portal departures has found his new home. Rising sophomore defensive end Alexander McPherson announced his commitment to Penn State on Tuesday morning.

The IMG Academy product appeared in 10 games for the Buffs this season, totaling 16 tackles, six quarterback hurries, 0.5 sacks and a blocked punt. He will now head to Happy Valley under new head coach Matt Campbell. McPherson was a three-star recruit in Colorado's 2025 class and is similarly ranked on the transfer portal.

Other former Buffs who have also found new programs include Omarion Miller (Arizona State), Tawfiq Byard and Brandon Davis-Swain (Texas A&M) and Jehiem Oatis (Ole Miss). However, Deion Sanders and company have hit the portal hard and have landed a whopping 14 players in just five days. The Buffs have a clear strategy: to target highly productive Group of Six and Power Four players who want to challenge themselves at the next level. While the success of that direction will ultimately play out on the field, it makes more sense for Colorado to target Power Four rejects than to target Power Four rejects.

McPherson will now have a chance to play for a Big Ten title and College Football Playoff spot with three years of eligibility remaining. With Campbell bringing several players over from Iowa State, it will be interesting to see if McPherson can challenge for a starting spot in 2026.
