Former Arizona State DB Javan Robinson has experience Wisconsin needs in secondary

MADISON – Javan Robinson could be just what the Wisconsin defense needs.

The 5-foot-11, 180-pound cornerback started 26 games at Arizona State the past two seasons, including a Big 12 championship game and College Football Playoff contest during the 2024 season. Combine his time with the Sun Devils and Washington State and he brings 33 games of experience into his final season of college football.

Monday, Jan. 5, CBS Sports and On3 reported that Robinson committed to Wisconsin, a team in great need of experience at the cornerback position.

With the addition of Robinson the Badgers continue to build their secondary. They picked up cornerback Eric Fletcher (Oklahoma State) on Saturday and Cai Bates (Florida State) on Monday.

Robinson has more experience than those players combined.

This season he played in 12 regular-season games. He finished with 42 tackles that included 2½ tackles for a loss and broke up eight passes.

In 2024, he started every game for the Sun Devils and finished with 43 tackles, three interceptions, four pass breakups, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. He made five tackles and one interception in Arizona State’s playoff quarterfinal loss to Texas.

He played seven games at Washington State in 2023, including the Cougars' 31-22 victory over the Badgers at Camp Randall Stadium. He made one tackle in that contest and finished the year with 12 stops.

This season Robinson ranked fourth on the defense with 659 snaps played, according to Pro Football Focus. In 2024 he ranked fifth with 782 snaps.

Robinson joins a cornerback room where rising redshirt sophomore Omillio Agard, who made three starts and played in 11 games, and rising sophomore Cairo Skanes are the most experienced returning players.

The room, which was hit hard by transfer portal departures following the 2024 season, doesn’t have a returning player with upper classman eligibility.
