Indianapolis Colts cornerback Charvarius Ward spent three seasons with the San Francisco 49ers from 2022-24, starting 46 games and making the Pro Bowl and an All-Pro team once.
Ward left San Francisco this past offseason, inking a three-year, $54 million contract with $35 million guaranteed, but his 2025 campaign wasn't his best. The 29-year-old played in just seven games while suffering three concussions.

Now, as Ward reflects on the season, he's considering retirement.
"With the brain injuries, you don't really see it ... until you get older sometimes," Ward said (via. ESPN) "I'm still a pretty young guy and the more I beat my brain up, the more it'll affect me as I get older. So, I've got a lot of life to live out of football. I've got to think about my family and kids, too. So, we'll see."
Ward explained that he's still unable to shake symptoms over three weeks since his last concussion, so this is clearly more serious than he had ever thought.
"If I walk away, I feel like I'd be happy," Ward said. "I'd have won the Super Bowl [with Kansas City] ... made hella money, made the Pro Bowl, made All-Pro. I did everything I wanted to. So, I feel like if I walk away, I won't regret it. I'm good."

Ward told reporters on Monday that if he does come back and get's another concussions he'll "for sure probably retire."
Hopefully Ward, who lost his 1-year-old daughter during his final season with the 49ers, can find peace and live his post-football days happy and healthy.
