Forest 0-1 Everton: Live & How to Watch | Garner scores early

Halftime Thoughts – Everton have adopted a siege mentality here to deal with the barrage from Forest especially after the Blues took the lead. More of the same in the second half?

45’ – One minute added on here. Nothing much happens, and there’s the halftime whistle.

43’ – Iroegbunam foul on Anderson, freekick about 30 yards out, central position. Zinchenko fires it goalwards, Pickford saves, parrying it over the bar. Corner taken short, shot blocked by Garner who has been everywhere.

40’ – That’s 24 crosses from Forest now.

38’ – Another corner into the box, Pickford collects comfortably.

36’ – James Tarkowski clears a Jesus cross for a corner. Garner at the front post clears the corner.

32’ – Both Dibling and Rohl have been guilty of cheap giveaways when they’ve taken too long on the ball. Some of that comes from not getting enough game time.

29’ – Hudson-Odoi gets the ball in the box from a deep cross but the ball gets away from the forward.

27’ – Everton on the counter, have plenty of bodies but Barry lazily lets the ball run away from him and Forest can clear.

22’ – Igor Jesus jumps high but his header is tame and wide.

19’ – James Garner nips into a ball from Dwight McNeil in the inside right channel, and scores! Slotted into the far corner too, Everton lead 1-0 at the City Ground!

Apologies for the late start to the live blog, had to run some errands before kickoff.

Starting Lineups

Everton – The rumours were accurate, Keane and Alcaraz are out with Grealish on the bench, alongside lots of youngsters.

Nottingham Forest – Dyche names a strong lineup.

Match Preview

Everton are on the road again as the festive fixtures hit their peak, this time away at Nottingham Forest. David Moyes’ side just beat Sean Dyche’s charges on the latter’s first game against the Toffees since being sacked by the Blues and then appointed manager by Forest, with Everton easily prevailing 3-0 at the friendly confines of Hill Dickinson Stadium.

However, injuries and AFCON mean the Blues will look quite different today as they travel to the City Ground to take on a mostly-similar Forest side.

The squad situation remains about the same for the Blues with Jarrad Branthwaite, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Idrissa Gueye, Iliman Ndiaye and Seamus Coleman all out. Rumours continue to circulate online that Jack Grealish is still doubtful, with Michael Keane also looking unlikely and Carlos Alcaraz is out.

Last Meeting

The two sides just met in early December with a KDH-driven own goal, Thierno Barry’s first goal and then KDH finally scoring again in a 3-0 win. Everton’s last trip to the City Ground was also successful back in April this year with Abdoulaye Doucoure scoring the only goal on a lightning counter attack to pretty much ensure the Toffees would not be embroiled in a relegation battle while simultaneously throwing a wrench in the works for Forest’s Champions League hopes.
