The Atlanta Falcons are looking to make big changes after failing to make the playoffs for an eighth straight season. The team fired head coach Raheem Morris and general manager Terry Fontenot just a few hours after Sunday's victory over the New Orleans Saints.
Falcons owner Arthur Blank seems to have lost his patience with the current regime and is reportedly looking to hire a familiar face for a key front office role. According to The Athletic's Dianna Russini, Blank is eyeing former Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan to be the team's president of football operations.

Ryan, the franchise leader in most major passing categories, is currently working as a TV analyst for CBS. The former league MVP was the last Falcons quarterback to take the team to the playoffs. Per Russini, Ryan is the leading candidate for the president of football operations job.
"While Matt Ryan is expected to be the lead candidate, the team must comply with the league's Rooney Rule before making any hire official," explained Russini.
The Falcons drafted Ryan with the third overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft out of Boston College. Over his 14 seasons in Atlanta (2008-2021), Ryan passed for 59,735 yards, 367 touchdowns and 170 interceptions while leading the team to 120 regular-season wins.

Ryan was traded to the Colts in 2022 and retired following one season in Indianapolis. The former fan favorite would be a welcome addition to Atlanta's front office. The team just replaced CEO Rich McKay with president Greg Beadles on Monday.
"Over the past three decades, Greg has diligently served in a variety of roles throughout our organization and has made an indelible impact on those around him each step of the way," Blank wrote in a statement.
Stay tuned for the latest updates on the Falcons' search for a new head coach and general manager.
