Every time we watch Quinyon Mitchell suit up for the Philadelphia Eagles, it's hard to do so without smiling. It's still hard to believe. This guy probably shouldn't even be on the roster if we're being honest.
They say, 'scout the player and not the helmet.' Mitchell didn't play his college football in the Big Ten or SEC, but it is evident that he had NFL talent, first-round talent. As the 2024 NFL Draft became a discussion, he was on everyone's list as one of the top three cornerbacks entering the selection meeting.

Draft time came with Detroit serving as hosts. It seemed impossible that someone so good would fall to Philadelphia at the 22nd overall selection. It seemed, if the Eagles were going to land him, they'd have to trade up. Otherwise, he'd be off the board by the time Howie Roseman and company were on the clock.
We all know how things worked out. There was a run in quarterbacks. Six were taken during the top 12 picks. Great players at other positions slid, including Mitchell. He landed with Philadelphia at 22.
Yeah, no one saw that happening, but thank goodness it did. Mitchell has been a revelation. He and teammate Cooper DeJean were finalists for the NFL's Defensive Rookie of the Year Award last season. This time around, both made the Pro Bowl. Mitchell earned another accolade on New Year's Day.
Quinyon Mitchell is named as part of ESPN's All-Pro Team.
Happy New Year, everyone, and congratulations to Eagles star cornerback Quinyon Mitchell. ESPN named its 2025 All-Pro team. He's the lone Eagle named to the First or Second Team.
"The Eagles play man at the third-highest rate in the NFL. And Mitchell has already emerged as a shutdown guy on his side of the field. If you've watched Eagles games all season, you've probably noticed how often teams are going out of their way to target the guys who aren't Mitchell and Cooper DeJean in coverage."
Those were Bill Barnwell's words. He's the writer of this one. He continued his thought, highlighting the statistical data, further proving Mitchell's deserved place among pro football's top talents.
"Most of the targets Mitchell sees are low-percentage prayers from quarterbacks. He's allowing the third-best completion percentage (43.8%) on targets of any cornerback this season, trailing only Stingley and Donte Jackson, who earned a second-team nod. His 67.5% success rate in coverage is the best mark in the NFL among outside corners. And Mitchell also tackles better than the vast majority of starting corners, as his 6.3% missed tackle rate ranks 10th in the league at the position."
Two other corners were named: Derek Stingley Jr. (Houston Texans) and Christian Gonzalez (New England Patriots). All three are deserving. All three rank among the best the game has to offer at the position.

The Associated Press (AP), Pro Football Writers of America (PFWA), and The Sporting News have yet to name their All-Pro rosters. When they do, something tells us Mitchell has an opportunity to be part of their mentions as well.
