The Miami Dolphins signed rookie running back Donovan Edwards off the Washington Commanders' practice squad Friday and placed tight end Darren Waller on injured reserve to make room, the team announced Friday.
Edwards, 22, played collegiately at Michigan where he recorded more than 3,000 yards from scrimmage with 25 total touchdowns. After he wasn't selected in the 2025 NFL draft, Edwards initially joined the New York Jets' as an undrafted free agent, but signed with the Commanders' practice squad after he was cut at the end of training camp.

The Dolphins now have four running backs on the active roster with Edwards joining De'Von Achane, Jaylen Wright, and Ollie Gordon II. Achane hasn't practiced this week and his availability for Miami's regular season finale against the New England Patriots is in doubt.
Edwards is the second rookie to join the Dolphins' 53-man roster this week fresh off another team's practice squad. On Thursday, Miami signed quarterback Cam Miller -- a Tom Brady favorite -- from the Las Vegas Raiders' practice squad.
Waller's season ends with 24 receptions for 283 yards and six touchdowns in nine games.
