Dolphins GM search tracker: Every update on Miami's executive hunt

4 days ago 2

The Miami Dolphins are wasting no time getting their general manager hunt under way.

Back in October, after a 2-7 start to the season, the Dolphins parted ways with Chris Grier, who spent a quarter century with the franchise and was in his 10th season as GM. It's undetermined for now if Mike McDaniel will return as head coach, but one thing is clear: Miami is ready to leave no stone unturned in its search for a new executive.

With Hall of Fame quarterbacks Dan Marino and Troy Aikman teaming with Dolphins vice president Brandon Shore, Miami is already lining up interviews with candidates for the vacancy.

We'll be updating this post with every piece of information about the Dolphins' search for a new GM to take the reins:

Dolphins to interview 49ers director of scouting and football operations Josh Williams

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported Monday the Dolphins requested an interview with Williams.

Williams went into the financial industry after four years of playing wide receiver for Columbia, but returned to football in 2011 as part of the 49ers' scouting department. In 14 seasons with the team, he has become an integral part of the 49ers front office and his current responsibilities include everything from scouting to contract negotiations.

Dolphins to interview 49ers vice president of player personnel Tariq Ahmad

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported Monday the Dolphins requested an interview with Ahmad.

Ahmad joined the 49ers as a scouting assistant in 2014 and has been a fast riser through their front office. He was promoted to area scout in 2015, assistant director of college scouting in 2020, director of college scouting in 2021, and director of player personnel in 2023. He was given the title of vice president in 2025.

Halaby is a Harvard grad who got his foot in the door with the Eagles after emailing all 32 NFL teams looking for a job. From there, he worked his way up from intern to analyst to special assistant to vice president of football operations to assistant general manager.

In Philadelphia, he's learned under Howie Roseman for nearly two decades. Now at age 39, other NFL teams are taking notice of Halaby's rise through the ranks. The Panthers, Commanders, and Jets have all interview Halaby for GM vacancies in recent years.

Dolphins to interview Packers vice president of player personnel Jon-Eric Sullivan

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported Monday the Dolphins requested an interview with Sullivan.

After more than two decades of climbing through the ranks in Green Bay, Sullivan has been a hot name in the executive market over the last couple years. In 2025, the Titans, Raiders, Jets, and Jaguars all interviewed Sullivan for their GM vacancies. Jacksonville named Sullivan one of five finalists before settling on James Gladstone instead.
