Dolphins fire Mike McDaniel after 4 seasons as coach

The Miami Dolphins fired Mike McDaniel on Thursday morning after four seasons with the coach, according to multiple reports.

McDaniel, 42, led the Dolphins to back-to-back playoff appearances in his first two seasons with the team. While Miami failed to win a postseason game in those two years, his arrival ushered in prolific offensive performances for the team and career-best years for players like Tua Tagovailoa and Tyreek Hill.

However, the Dolphins missed the playoffs in the last two seasons, finishing just below .500 with 8-9 and 7-10 records. Tagovailoa regressed and was eventually benched, and the Miami offense finished No. 22 and No. 25 in points scored in 2024 and 2025, respectively.

Following the 2024 season, McDaniel admitted that the team had a discipline issue that he was struggling to get a handle on. While that was seemingly solved in 2025 following departures of several high-profile players, including Jalen Ramsey, the Dolphins were worse on both sides of the ball, eventually resulting in a midseason dismissal of Chris Grier as general manager.

In his four seasons, McDaniel led the Dolphins to a 35-33 regular season record.
