Whether or not it was intended as such, star Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum having an extended workout in front of the media this week has reignited discussion of when (and whether) the St. Louis native ought to return from the Achilles tendon tear he suffered in the 2025 NBA Eastern Conference Semifinals.

Currently well ahead of the typical eight months to a year most such injuries require, reporters have been working hard to get updates on where Tatum actually is in the process. And while the team and his teammates have been tight-lipped as to any specifics, Boston guard Derrick White had some observations to share on the rehab process for his superstar friend ahead of the Celtics' 104-103 road loss to the Detroit Pistons on Monday (Jan. 19).

"It's been amazing to see, obviously, all the work he's put in," said White via CLNS Media of Tatum's rehabilitation process, "and you see him being around more and be able to do more, so that's exciting to see as a friend ... every day, he's been working hard and it's good to see all that hard work add to some more movement and more opportunities."

"He doesn't want to watch (Celtics games)," added White. "He wants to go out there and play. But he's been amazing just supporting every game, having him over there, it's been a lot of fun."

"I have no idea exactly what the timeline is, how he's doing, but it's just good to see him moving around and just supporting us."
