Derrick White breaks down how Boston Celtics were able to tighten up late to win Thursday

1 week ago 2

Derrick White made just one shot in the first three quarters of the Boston Celtics' 120-106 road win over the Sacramento Kings at Golden 1 Center Thursday (Jan. 1) night. But he more than made up for it in the final frame of the contest on his way to putting up 16 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 steals and as many blocks, helping the Celtics shake off some early rust to secure the victory and improve to 21-12 on the season.

The University of Colorado - Boulder alum took a moment to talk to NBC Sports Boston's Abby Chin after the final buzzer sounded, and broke down how Boston was able to get the stops they needed to get the win. "I mean, that was the name of the game," said White. We were scoring, obviously they were scoring. So, to be able to buckle down there down the stretch, get stops, get rebounds, and get a good win to start the year."

As to how he changed his play for the fourth quarter attack he unleashed on the Kings, he said he was "trying to be a little aggressive, stay in my shot. I don't know -- it's just fun time in the game and I just wanted to make an impact on it."

The Celtics veteran also made sure to credit the bench players who were instrumental in securing the victory. "They've been huge," said White. "All year they've been huge for us."

"They come in, change the game, bring energy, (get) 50/50 balls, make shots -- they do a little bit everything for us. So, we're a complete team and we need everybody."
