DeeDee Harrison joining sister Isabelle in Hillsboro Hall of Fame

The Hillsboro High School Athletic Hall of Fame 2025 class has a family theme, with DeeDee Harrison joining her sister Isabelle, who was inducted in 2024, and former coach LeMore McGill (posthumously) and his son, LeBrian, joining 11 others in the induction.

Others in the class and the year they graduated include Jinx Cockerham (1966), Anthony Eubanks (1979), Bucky Ford (1975), Milton Francis (1975), Eric Gordon (2009), Jessica Mooney Holman (2006), Gloria "Gigi" Hood (1970), Sara Hume (1965), David Parker (1992), Renee Spencer (1985), and Russ Wingo (1972).

The 2009 girls state championship basketball team will also be enshrined.

Harrison was a volleyball captain every year and on the basketball and softball teams in her junior and senior seasons.

She went on to play volleyball at Tennessee and was All-SEC as a junior.

Isabelle, who graduated from Hillsboro in 2011, played basketball at Tennessee and is in her seventh year in the WNBA with the New York Liberty.

LeMore McGill, who died in 2016, spent 40 years coaching football, girls basketball, baseball and volleyball in Nashville. He was the coach of Hillsboro's 2008-09 state championship girls basketball team and was inducted into the Metro Nashville Interscholastic Basketball Association Hall of Fame in 2019.

LeBrian McGill, a running back, was The Tennessean offensive player of the year as a junior in 1991 and went on to become one the all-time leading rushers at Middle Tennessee State. He also played basketball and baseball at Hillsboro and returned as an assistant football coach in 2003.

Cockerham was the Nashville Interscholastic League basketball most valuable player at Hillsboro in 1965-66 and inducted into the Metro Nashville Public Schools Sports Hall of Fame in 2007.

Eubanks made the 1978 All-NIL basketball team after averaging 16.1 points and 14.5 rebounds per game.

Ford, a defensive end, made the 1974 All-NIL football team and the basketball third team.

Francis was a student trainer for football and basketball who went on to Vanderbilt where he served in a similar role.

Gordon, a defensive back, was a member of The Tennessean's Dandy Dozen Football Team and the Metro Coaches Association offensive player of the year, who played at Tennessee.

Mooney Holman was an all-state basketball player who went on to star at Vanderbilt and later became an analyst for the SEC Network.

Hood was an All-NIL basketball player and outstanding tennis player.

Hume was a basketball standout who also led Hillsboro to the NIL tennis championship.

Parker was the 1992 Moss Oliver Award (top Metro basketball player) winner.

Spencer was one of the top basketball players in Nashville who played at Fisk and is in the Fisk Sports hall of Fame.

Wingo was a basketball standout who became the first white player to sign with Tennessee State.

The induction ceremony is scheduled for Jan. 28 at 5 p.m. in the Hillsboro auditorium.

2026 Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway schedule set

The green flag for the 122nd Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway season will drop on March 28. Track Enterprises will promote the season for the seventh straight season.

Opening Night 122 Years of Racing, at the historic track, will include six divisions. Along with the pro late models feature, there will be limited late-models, pure stocks, front-runners, legends, and Bandoleros.

The ZMAX Car Tour & Pro Late Models will run on April 11, followed by the INEX Spring Nationals April 16-18. The ARCA Music City 150 is May 1-2.

The third annual Rackley Roofing Battle of Broadway 150, one of the most popular races of the season that has featured current NASCAR Cup drivers each of the previous two years, is on May 28. That is three days before the Cracker Barrel 400 NASCAR Cup Series race at Nashville Superspeedway.

The last five events include the Pro Late Model 150 on June 27; Modifieds of Mayhem Tour & North/South 100 on July 11; Bass Tire Family Night Pro Late Model 150 on Aug. 8; the Breast Cancer Awareness Autumn Thunder on Oct. 3, and the All American 400 on Nov. 6-8.

Former Tullahoma, Columbia coach Dan Bland dies at 81

Longtime high school football coach Dan Bland died on Dec. 21. He was 81.

After serving as a team captain and running back at Mississippi State in 1965, Bland was the 41st player selected in the 1966 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers.

Following his time in the NFL Bland embarked on a 26-year coaching career that included stints at Tullahoma, Columbia, Farragut, Jackson Central-Merry, Milan, and Humboldt High School.

He won nearly 200 games in his career.
