Brian Flores has helped the Vikings franchise transition from an era of uncertainty and underperformance on defense to one of the league's best units. He has helped players take the next step in their development, maximized free agent additions like Andrew Van Ginkel and Jonathan Greenard, and has helped proven veterans like Harrison Smith show they still have some juice by scheming them properly.
It is the latter of the players mentioned that Flores spoke at length about this week. In what could be the final game of his NFL career, Smith has a lot of eyes on him, and the talent he has is never far from the mind of his defensive coordinator.

Flores spoke about Harrison Smith, saying, "Harrison Smith is one of the best players I've ever been around, one of the smartest players I've ever been around. I've been around a few, you know, some really good ones, and he's brought so much to this organization. He plays the game the right way, a purist of the game, someone who loves every facet of it. I just think he's one of the best. . .I'm happy for him."
Flores is not one to show emotion, so this may be the closest anyone gets to seeing him that way. It speaks to the player and person that Smith is, as well as how Flores sees the game and respects it. Two greats for the organization, with one potentially stepping away, will have everyone in the feels come Sunday.
