Cruzeiro aim to break the bank for Gerson, hoping for a happy ending

Cruzeiro has not given up on Gerson yet.

And, according to ESPN, they are willing to pay 27 million euros (R$ 171 million) in fixed fees to sign the midfielder from Zenit.

This amount would make the 28-year-old the most expensive signing in the history of Brazilian football.

That title currently belongs to Vitor Roque, who will cost Palmeiras a total of 25.5 million euros (R$ 156.2 million at the time) – see the current Top 5 below.

The last attempt by Cruzeiro for Gerson was 15 million euros plus the 21-year-old defender Jonathan Jesus, who is valued between 12 and 15 million euros (R$ 76 to 95 million).

Zenit would like to do business for 40 million euros, but will still evaluate the new proposal from Cruzeiro, according to the report.

Pedro Junio, vice president of Cruzeiro, spoke about the pursuit of Gerson during an appearance on the program Fala a Fonte:

“We have been talking for a few days with Zenit, negotiating, and Zenit has been very respectful. As for the values, we usually don’t disclose them, we haven’t closed anything yet, proposals go back and forth, but we are in daily talks. It’s a tough negotiation, he’s an important player for Zenit, every team in Brazil wanted him. We are making progress, every day is a victory, but it will drag on for a few more days and we hope for a happy ending.”
