The Dallas Cowboys got a jump on a critical offseason by dissolving their relationship with one of the roster's biggest names.

The team on Tuesday waived two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Trevon Diggs, according to multiple reports.

Diggs, 27, is just a year and a half removed from signing a five-year, $97 million contract extension that put him in a tie for the NFL's fifth-highest-paid cornerback.

A second-round pick out of Alabama in 2020, Diggs – the younger brother of New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs – quickly established himself as one of the league's premier defensive playmakers in the secondary. In 2011, he tied a Cowboys franchise record by recording a league-best 11 interceptions, earning him an All-Pro nod.

But Diggs played in just eight games this season, missing nearly two months after suffering a concussion and a right knee injury. He and the Cowboys disagreed over whether he was healthy enough to return in mid-December, though he was active for the team's last two games.
