The relationship between the Dallas Cowboys and All-Pro cornerback Trevon Diggs has reached a point of no return, culminating in his release on Tuesday — and the Pittsburgh Steelers should pay close attention.
Any team hoping to acquire Diggs off waivers would be on the hook for paying his $472,222 guaranteed game check this season, which means he’d likely go unclaimed and become a free agent. Pittsburgh could acquire him as a cheap postseason rental, where at worst he’d compete for starting opportunities opposite James Pierre and Asante Samuel Jr., while at best he’d return to his splash playmaking self.
Selected by the Cowboys with the 51st overall pick in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Diggs had a solid six-year career in Dallas, including his incredible 2021 season in which he led the league with 11 interceptions and two pick-sixes.

If Pittsburgh can get past the Baltimore Ravens in Week 18 to clinch a spot in the playoffs, signing Diggs seems like just the type of low-risk, high-reward move to make for a deep postseason run.
