As John Harbaugh begins building his coaching staff with the New York Giants, former Wake Forest head coach Dave Clawson has emerged as a name to watch.
USA TODAY's Art Stapleton reported Tuesday that he has heard Clawson’s name mentioned for a potential role, possibly as a senior offensive assistant.
The Athletic’s Dan Duggan also listed Clawson among candidates Harbaugh may consider, alongside Tee Martin (current Ravens QB coach) and Greg Roman (former Ravens offensive coordinator).
Quarterbacks coach Tee Martin could follow Harbaugh from Baltimore in the same role, although he has been pursuing offensive coordinator opportunities. Greg Roman, who was fired as Chargers offensive coordinator by Jim Harbaugh last week, could find a role on John Harbaugh’s staff. Roman spent six years on John Harbaugh’s staff in Baltimore, including four years as OC. Roman could be a candidate for a role like run-game coordinator. Former Wake Forest coach Dave Clawson is another name to keep an eye on.
Clawson, 58, resigned from Wake Forest in December 2024 after 11 seasons, citing the evolving college landscape -- NIL deals and the transfer portal -- as factors in his decision to step away from the sidelines.

He left as the program’s winningest coach since joining the ACC, with a 67-69 record, seven straight bowl appearances, an ACC Atlantic Division title in 2021, and a reputation for building high-scoring offenses built around the slow-mesh RPO system.
Clawson previously participated in the Harbaugh Coaching Academy, giving the two a prior professional connection.
